Every year, you could expect to find Tony Borzcik of Tony’s Orchard set up in the same spot at the Indiana County Farmers’ Market when the peach and apple seasons came around. Tony’s fruits were delicious and by eating them you could understand the care that went into producing them.
Tony brought a lot of positivity to our community in the short weeks he was at the market every season. His wife Eleanor and family continue to be very supportive of our farmers’ market and we are grateful. Thank you to Tony and the Borzcik family for making such a huge impact on the greater Indiana community!
Tony will be missed by vendors and customers alike.

Anthony Borzcik, 93, Lucernemines, PA, died peacefully on August 13, 2021, with his family at his side.
Son of the late Stephen and Marcella (Matejovie) Borzcik, Tony was born December 15, 1927, in Vintondale, PA. He was raised from the age of 4 by his father and stepmother, Emma (Yanche Sofko) Borzcik.
Anthony and Eleanor (Butchko) of Johnstown were married on September 8, 1951, in Vintondale, Pa. This September would have been their 70 th wedding anniversary.
Tony is survived by his wife, Eleanor (Butchko) Borzcik, and his children, Stephanie (Richard) Parkington of Lake Monticello, VA; Stephen Borzcik of Boulder, CO; and Christina (Kevin) Benner of York Springs, PA. He was preceded in death by his children, Michael Borzcik and Joan Rethi. Tony is survived by his ten grandchildren, Jennifer, Michelle, Francine, Michael, Emily, Caroline, Matthew, Mandy, Hannah, and Noah, and his four great-grandchildren, Luke, Erin, Natalie, and Adam. Tony is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth Verbano, and preceded in death by his siblings, Margaret Petsche, John Borzcik, Marcella Istenes, Stephen Sofko, John Sofko, and Helen Kopidlowski.
Tony attended Vintondale High School. He then served his country during WWII as a Merchant Marine, followed by several years in the U.S Navy. He was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish.
He graduated from Purdue University in 1952 with a B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering and was a registered professional engineer. He began his career with Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in Akron, OH. In 1964 he moved his family to Indiana, PA, to be the plant engineer for McCreary Tire & Rubber Co.
He retired early to pursue his dream of planting and running an orchard business, which was successfully realized with the creation of Sleepy Hollow Orchard in Indiana, PA. His other passion for golf led to a job as the head groundskeeper at the VFW golf club. His last years were devoted to “Tony’s Orchard” at his home in Lucernemines and selling his fruit at the Indiana County Farmers Market.
