Saturday Market Coordinator
Intern or Volunteer (unpaid)
PURPOSE:
Operate Saturday market info booth to process SNAP/EBT & credit transactions. Provide info to customers for a positive shopping experience. Support vendors as needed on market day. Coordinate market events and entertainment. Promote the farmers’ market, vendors, products, and programming as a local, accessible hub for fresh, producer-only goods. Promotions frequently highlight the food benefits matching program that align with ICFM’s mission.
TIME COMMITMENT:
4 hours per week primarily June through October with some off-season hours for market year planning and prep. Markets take place on Saturdays from 9AM-12PM. Saturday Market attendance is required every Saturday, with two Saturdays off per month–arrival by 8AM to get set up and assist with directing vendors. Other markets. Must be set up and ready to handle SNAP/Credit card transactions by 9 AM.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Saturday Market SNAP & credit card transactions, tabling. Setup/teardown of tent, table, and chairs will be done with assistance of a rotating schedule of vendors. (Two Saturdays per month can be scheduled off if desired.)
- Events/Programming – plan programming for the market that will attract and retain customers such as community collaborations, customer appreciation day, educational opportunities, live music, and more.
- Communications – social media, email, blog promotions of the market (optional)
VOLUNTEER CONDITIONS:
The ICFM is a rain or shine market, meaning market-day activities take place in all weather conditions. Lift up to 50 pounds for tent and table set up. Access to a computer and the internet is needed for work that is done outside of Saturday market hours.
