The Indiana County Farmers’ Market has expanded our matching programs to provide greater access to more food for more people who receive SNAP or FMNP benefits. Eligible customers can start accessing matching perks beginning Saturday, June 5th, the first farmers’ market of the season.
SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and FMNP (Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program) both provide individuals and families with special funds that can be spent towards food purchases, including fresh food that can be found at our farmers’ market. While these benefits are a huge help to low-income families, community members often benefit from additional support to bring home more groceries: that’s where we come in.
The Indiana County Farmers’ Market is a non-profit organization, and one of our charitable initiatives is to raise funds to increase the buying power of low-income families. This year, we’re expanding our existing Foodbucks program to also include Crop Cash! SNAP and FMNP customers are eligible to receive up to $20 in Foodbucks or Crop Cash matching funds per market visit. This ‘money’ may be spent with participating vendors on nearly all food items at the market.
Customers interested in this program are encouraged to visit the Market Info Booth during the Saturday Farmers’ Market from 9AM – 12PM at S. 8th & Church St June through October.
