On Saturday, August 16th, Penn State Extension will be attending the Farmers’ Market Community Health Day with special equipment to test your Pressure Gauge!
If you use a dial gauge pressure canner to preserve food, you should test it every year to ensure accuracy and safe processing. Low pressure can allow illness-causing bacteria and spores to survive the canning process. High pressure can overcook food, making it less palatable.
For testing, bring only the lid from your dial gauge pressure canner. This free test takes a few minutes.
