Vendor Spotlight: Mahoning Creek Farm

Your Farmers:

Mahoning Creek Farm is not only a multi-generational farm, it is a century farm, meaning the family has been farming it for 100+ years, since 1918. The meat you purchase today comes from the experience of 33+ years raising Angus cattle, 50 years raising sheep, and 50 years raising pigs.

Your farmers Bob and Darlene Livingston feel the most important crop they’ve ever raised on the farm are their children Morgan and Garrett. Morgan and Garret both have full time jobs in the agriculture industry and play an intricate role on the family farm as well. Bob says, “my favorite thing about farming is the challenge of working with nature.” Darlene’s favorite part of farming will always be lambing season.

Darlene also really enjoys sharing her passion for agriculture and experience with others. “We enjoy the wonderful people we’ve met and friendships we’ve built through the Farmers’ Market,” says Darlene. Selling at the Indiana County Farmers’ Market gives the MCF family the opportunity to meet people they never would have had they stayed on the farm all the time.

Philosophy: “Our goal is for all livestock to never have a bad day. We accomplish that by providing the highest quality care possible and always keeping animal stress at a minimum. We believe that provides the most wholesome, best tasting food as well.”

Mission: Mahoning Creek Farm will be a profitable and environmentally sustainable diversified livestock and crop operation. We will maintain high ethical standards in the tradition of previous generations in all our interactions with the community. Stewardship of the land, animals and family will be a top priority.

Products:

Specialties: We’ve always strived to have the highest quality meats. Bob has worked for 33 years selecting Angus for high carcass quality and therefore our Angus finish well on grass. The Durocs fit in well with the Angus as Durocs are one of the two top meat quality breeds of pigs and have been a part of Mahoning Creek Farm for 78+ years. The sheep are Darlene’s favorite species and she’s been raising them since she was 6 years old.

Offered: High quality Pastured Angus beef, Pastured Lamb, Duroc Pork, cage-free eggs, Farm Fixins, family favorite recipes (prepared foods) and sweet corn in August
